This bar, for me, summarises everything that is the Plaza Olavide – the busy terrazas, the smart-casual waiters, the basic yet brilliant Spanish food, and just sitting for hours in good company enjoying life.
This place is famous for its Spanish omelette (tortilla), and it’s what everyone orders. They have a deal, which is a Spanish omelette with roast peppers, a big bowl of salad and bread on the side – in Spain tortilla is never eaten without bread, but it’s also perfect for mopping up the salad juices! The tortillas are made to order, so are always warm and gooey (they way a perfect tortilla should be). For me, they often put a bit too much salt in it though, but you can always ask when you order for it to be slightly less salty.
This is the perfect place to go on summer evenings, when you’ll find all the terrazas crowded and lively. Good luck finding a table (sometimes you have to stand around in an informal queue for a few minutes until you secure your spot)! When you do sit down, though, you’ll probably end up staying for hours, soaking up the atmosphere!
Arco Iris is on the corner of c/Palafox, on the west side of the plaza. It’s probably the only place on this plaza with neon lights, which makes it easier to spot!
