Cacto Cacto – A shop for cactus lovers!

I came across this little shop shortly after arriving in Madrid, while wandering the city to discover new places with a friend from Arizona. For her it was like finding a little piece of her home in Madrid. Cactuses and succulents were a normal part of everyday life for her back home, but for me they are fascinating because they are exotic plants. Stepping into this shop is like being transported to the desert!

The design is very plain, with a bare concrete floor and walls which makes the plants themselves stand out even more. It’s a tiny shop, but I can spend plenty of time in there, being amazed at all the different shapes and sizes of cactus. There’s a large display table covered with tiny pots, each housing a tiny cactus different to the ones surrounding it. These cost less than € 3 each. At the other end of the spectrum you have enormous cactuses, that would make an interesting centerpiece in any house. In between, you have my favourites: the hanging cactuses, that trail down from their pots, practically touching the floor.

This shop is one of the curiosities of Madrid. Definitely worth popping in to admire the flora!
