Desperate Literature is a romantic little bookstore tucked away on a quiet street near Opera. It’s an “international bookshop”, so here you will be able to find all kinds of books in Spanish, English, French, and in all different levels.
When I stopped in Desperate Literature on one Friday, I was kindly welcomed by the worker and she even offered me tea upon entering. With a warm chai in my hands, I was impressed with all of the different kinds of books and genres that were offered, especially since the place is quite tiny. What was even better was that a lot of the books had a small “review” already written on them by the workers of the store, so that way you could get an idea of what you were going to read.
One of the sections that called my attention was the “Boozy Books” sections, and I later found out that free shot of whiskey is offered upon purchase. As if I hadn’t already liked this bookstore enough.
Another cool part about this place is that they often hold events inside the store. One of the most popular ones is “Harry Potter trivia night”. From what my loyal HP fans friends informed me, the prize from the last trivia night was home-made fire whiskey. Only a true fan of J.K. Rowling’s books could appreciate that. They also have bilingual poetry readings, book club meetings and mini concerts. All of these events can be found on their Facebook page.
