I first passed by this little place at night, and to me it looked magical. I wondered what was behind those railings, and soon came back during the day to check it out. I found a small piece of paradise!
Walk through the gates and you find yourself in the middle of what feels like a tiny park in the middle of the city. El Jardín del Ángel is a shop built in a greenhouse, but it is also much more than that – it’s a place to escape the hubbub of the city for a few moments.
You’ll find exotic plants and flowers here, as well as plant pots, furniture and garden accessories. The friendly owners are there to help you with any question you might have about plants and gardening, and are always willing to give you some of their time. The set up is really magical as all of this revolves around the ancient olive tree, which is the centrepiece of the garden.
It has a fascinating history too – it was once the cemetery of the local church of San Sebastián! After the bodies were moved to a more appropriate spot in 1889, it was converted into a working garden to be used by the people of the local parish, and later became the garden shop it is today.
