You don’t have to visit Romania or Russia to enjoy an Orthodox temple. Opened a few months ago, the golden roofs are seen from far away. The Santa María temple is the headquarters of the Spanish Orthodox Church, Russian Orthodox Church, Moscow Patriarchate and Archdiocese of Korsun. With much respect and trying not to disturb much I put my head through the door during a ceremony to see what was going on there.
Do not try to understand anything unless you know a bit of Russian. The services are spoken in ecclesiastical Slav, a medley of Russian and Ukrainian, so that everyone understands. Following the tradition, the priest gives the service facing away from the people. Russian, Ukrainian, Moldavians, Georgians and Spanish make up this community. It is nice to know other realities in Madrid than the ones we are used to. It is located in Hortaleza neighborhood (Madrid outskirts) at Gran Vía de Hortaleza 48 street. Metro line 8 and Pinar del Rey stop (on the way to the airport)
