Something is changing in Madrid’s relation to bikes. More and more people are choosing this healthy way of transportation every day. It’s not so weird that the hipster neighborhood of Malasaña has a pub-coffee-place-to-chat named “La bicicleta” (the bike). This bike oriented space is full of comfortable couches and armchairs. You can start your day here with a warm coffee while reading a newspaper and enjoying a delicious carrot cake. I like to grab a beer after work and laugh with friends at the bad moments of the day. I love to eat, so its veggie food, bagels or a salad can round off my day.
The owners usually have an exhibition downstairs related to the cycling culture. Collectables and artwork from Amsterdam and Copenhagen, for instance. “La Bicicleta” is not a common cafeteria. It also serves as a workspace for those who don’t have an office or just like open places to work.
