I must have walked past La Central loads of times before I actually went in. The first time I went in I fell in love! This is not just a standard bookshop. It is beautifully designed labyrinth of a bookshop, full of quirky titles that you won’t find everywhere. It’s a place to spend hours browsing, and then relax with a cup of tea (or coffee!) in the bustling café. I advise you to try one of the delicious ‘bizcocho’ sponge cakes. They have a really interesting selection of nice teas – camomile and honey is my favourite.
Don’t forget to look up and admire the view up through what was an interior courtyard of this former grand townhouse.
The bookshop has three floors, and specializes in philosophy, history and social sciences, as well as a good selection of literature. There is also an enticing section for kids, and a quirky stationery section, where I am always most tempted to spend my money!
Downstairs there is an underground cultural space, where they regularly have presentations by different authors, as well as live music every Thursday night.
