La Moderna Apicultura – Real honey sold here!

None of your shop-bought artificial honey here – this is the real stuff! Real honey made by real bees around Spain. Thyme honey, rosemary honey, lavender honey, orange blossom honey… you name it, they’ve probably got it! My personal favourites are: the dark, velvety heather honey, and the eucalyptus honey – a great way of helping to fight off a cold! The honey comes either in small jars or big jars, the bigger jars obviously being better value for money.

Apart from honey, they sell a ton of other honey-based goodies – beauty products, sweets, and homemade cakes among them. You can also buy pollen and royal jelly, and many natural pollen-based remedies. The owner, Aurora, is really friendly and will give you plenty of help and advice.

When you’re in the shop, don’t forget to take time to look around at the various curiosities it contains – stained glass windows by the Casa Maumejean (traditional family business making stained glass for buildings around Spain and abroad for over 150 years), some original steel vats once used to store honey, and an intriguing painting with beehives. And outside, above the entrance, is the striking design by the architect Secundino Zuazo, which dates from 1919, when the shop was first opened.
