If you like eating fresh, local produce – this is the place to be in the morning of the first Saturday of every month!
Just a short walk from Lago metro (in the Casa de Campo), you’ll find the headquarters of the Cámara Agraria – the official body that represents and supports local farmers in and around Madrid. As you walk up from the metro, you’ll see the early birds returning with their shopping trolleys laden with goodies.
You’ll find everything from fresh fruit and veg, cheese, meat, baked goods, preserves, to wines and beers here. Entry is free, and there are plenty of free tasters on the stalls, but if you want to do some serious wine tasting you can buy a wine glass from a stall near the entrance, for € 2, which will let you have three tasters of any of the wines on offer. There are lots of regular stall-holders, but there’s always something new and different each month.
There’s also a bar serving cañas of local beers, such as La Virgen and Cibeles, and another serving up tapas to keep you going while you browse (buy tickets at the entrance, although expect a long queue for your food). I recommend La Veraniega, one of the La Virgen beers – it’s really fruity!
Is your mouth watering yet??
