Mercado San Fernando – Not your average market

The San Fernando market is the heart of the Lavapies neighbourhood. During the week it’s where the locals stock up on fruit, veg and other essential produce. You can buy organic, gluten-free, and all sorts of healthy options, as well as local produce, beauty products, books, and hand-made goods.

The atmosphere here on a Sunday is great – although you won’t find all the basics stalls open, anything selling drinks and tapas will be, and there’ll be a great vibe with people from all walks of life – old, young, families… In the central plaza of the market there might be a concert, or DJs playing, and people will be enjoying the music. It’s almost impossible not to start tapping your feet!

There are loads of deals on drinks and tapas, like a vermut (typical Sunday drink here in Madrid) plus your choice of tapa for a few euros. There’s also a craft beer place with so much on offer, you’re spoilt for choice!
