Mesón del Tío Aquilino is a synonym for comfort food, it’s the kind of restaurant you want to visit with this cold weather. They are originally from León, a small city in the north of Spain and you can tell by the way they cook and the ingredients they use.
Meson del Tío Aquilino is the house of stews and legumes, they offer a few every day but you can choose from more than 30 different stews and 7 different types of rice if you order them a couple of days in advance.
You can’t miss their “cocido maragato” available only on Wednesdays, a winter dish made with all kinds of meat, vegetables and chickpeas. You’d better take a siesta after this!
The Gastronomic Weeks that they celebrate every three months – Jornadas Gastronómicas de los Amigos de la Cuchara – are also fantastic. They offer a different set menu every day consisting of one appetizer, two entrées, two stews, dessert, coffee, a shot of digestive liquor and all the wine you can drink for only € 28! Plan another siesta after it.
Their dry meat – cecina – , smoked salmon, black pudding, tripe and ‘flan de queso’ are out of this world.
They have 2 dining areas and 2 smaller rooms, perfect if you plan to celebrate something and eat like a king. Call them if you want to go for dinner, they will probably open just for you.
