About me
I’m a native Texan, but I’ve lived in Chicago, North Carolina, Manhattan and on a private yacht (as the chef) that travelled to the Florida Keys and the Bahamas.
I’ve had a flirty love affair with Spain since the first time I came when I was 17; the country appealed to my artistic background and my love of good food. I came back as often as possible and landed a gig writing for a guide book of Spain in 2000 which was as hard as it was pleasurable. I saw a lot of Spain and cemented my true love feelings, but it wasn’t until I was working hard as a caterer and pastry chef in NYC that I made the decision to move here in 2004. My friends from Madrid called me to tell me of a vacant flat in their building with a large terrace and I’ve never looked back.
Madrid is my first choice of where to live in the country because it has a great mix of old and new with central access to the rest of Spain. History is prevalent here, which gives me chills if I think that I’ve walked the same steps as the Romans, Visigoths and Ancient Muslims.
The Madrileños also have a particular way of partying until morning, which is incredibly fun despite the over-abundance of smoke. The leisurely approach to meals is also enjoyable to eat and talk, drink, eat some more, drink some more while talking, etc, for hours on end…but I’ll admit that I have a hard time sitting still longer than two hours.
Why Madrid rocks?
there are a bazillion museums and cultural centers; you can find as much modernity as tradition; the music community is strong in both the classical and punk realms; you’re just a hop skip away from the mountains, the beach and the rest of Europe and Africa; inexpensive good wine and thousands of varieties of cured ham, need I say more?
