Ocho y medio is paradise for film buffs. It’s a bookshop, a café, and a publishing house, as well as a place where there are sometimes courses, monologues and musical evenings. It’s right across the road from a couple of small, independent cinemas, which makes it the perfect place for a coffee beforehand while you anticipate the film, or a drink afterwards to discuss your reactions.
They have a large selection of books about cinema, in many languages, as well as film-scripts, memorabilia, and gift items. They even have a small range of clothing to browse through. Don’t forget to check out their window displays, which are always themed on a recent film.
The menu is limited, but in my opinion they got it just right. They have a nice range of small snacks, and drinks – see how many film references you can find in the list! They do really nice cappuccinos. My favourite is the one with orange rind – very refreshing.
