What better chocolate than the kind made locally? Valor Chocolate is Spain’s oldest (and only if I’m not mistaking) chocolate/coffee shop franchise which dates back to 1881 and has some mighty tasty options from dark, dark chocolate to white chocolate.
In the summer, go for the chocolate granizado – a glass of iced chocolate yumminess “guaranteed” to come to the table at sub zero temperatures. Or in the winter, try a cup of rich hot chocolate scented with cinnamon. You can also order from a huge menu of dessert options and buy chocolate bars and sweets to go from the counter.
There are two branches in Madrid and a handful around Spain, this one is just off the busy Plaza Callao.

Visited twice and coming back at least a third time before leaving Madrid! Haven’t yet been to El Maestro or San Gines to compare, but I do know that the hot chocolate and churros are remarkably tasty here. Perfect to sit outside on a pleasant day. What was surprising was also how delicious the granizado fresa was — perfect, perfect “virgin” strawberry daiquiri-type of drink, and absolutely refreshing!
Would HIGHLY recommend, even if you feel like it’s a bit of a touristy spot for marketing Valor chocolate. Love it! Seeing families coming and piling plates high with churros is also quite delightful. Good location near Callao.
