It’s not so much a spot, more of a resource. Need/want a bike for your visit? You can have a Brompton (a British made folding bike). The Brompton dock is just over the way outside the entrance to Piccadilly train station. I think they’re in 24 cities.
I discovered them during a promotion and was able to rent the Brompton for a weekend for a pound. I’ll be honest I was a bit scared because a brand new Brompton costs like a grand. (If you break it you’re only liable for 500).
Cycling in Manchester is pretty easy cause it’s flat, and quite small. So the true benefit of a folder wasn’t known to me till I moved to the North of the city to the top of a hill, with a child, I’m just not that hardcore.
The true life changing qualities of a folding bike were revealed to me, Manchester has trams, you can bring a folding bike on it at any point in the day, you can take it on a train (unfolded). I have since bought a cheaper one of my own, I love the flexibility deeply.
It’s a pound to join the service, and then 5 pounds for 24 hours. You don’t have to talk to anyone, handy especially if you don’t speak English. You can pick it up and drop it off any time you want, and it can be ordered online or through text. Also you can use the same membership at any of the other docks.
