I am in many ways a Hulme native. That building site across the road? I used to play there when it was a park. There are many new businesses springing up in the shadow of the new campus. It saddens me to see the place change so much, but I’m also always on the lookout for good food that my diet allows. Grano is one such place: there it is real, uncomplicated food. It is the kind of place where avoiding gluten and dairy is not only not difficult, it’s tasty as well.
They also have a wide selection of cocktails, happy hour on a Wednesday or Friday where they can be bought 2 for 1 (my diet forbids drinking, but I hear good things)
One of the things they do which I think is great is that they host language exchange evenings. As the university brings in an increasing amount of international students, what better way to practice English than with friendly people in a friendly venue? Or in reverse?
