Koffeepot is something of an institution in Manchester and if there’s one place I take a first-time visitor, it’s here.
If you ever find yourself with a hangover after a few too many cocktails in the Northern Quarter the night before, a Koffeepot breakfast should sort you out in no time. It’s famous for its salt beef, haggis and smoked kippers as well as full English, Irish and Scottish breakfast, complete with a can of Irn Bru. The breakfasts are served with two slices of buttery toast as well as a strong cup of tea or coffee. What hangover?
The frontman of indie band Elbow once famously said that “If you’ve never had a bacon sandwich from there, you’ve never had a bacon sandwich.” I don’t eat meat so I can’t vouch for that, but the café is said to have inspired a line in one of their songs – that’s some pretty high praise! I can definitely highly recommend both the vegetarian and vegan breakfasts though – you can even order a vegan black pudding to accompany your Full English or Full Scottish. What could be more British?
