Copson Street is, without a doubt, the heart of Withington. A bustling road of charity shops and grocery stores, it serves as a fairly accurate reflection of South Manchester life.
There are plenty of popular local spots on Copson Street, and Nassar is most definitely one of them. While a halal butcher may be a surprising place to recommend in a travel guide, when you scratch the surface it becomes clear that this place serves as much more than a mere butcher.
Though this culinary delight started as a small counter within the shop, they’ve recently opened a restaurant next door where the welcoming owners make delicious toasted falafel, chicken and lamb wraps while you wait. I’d recommend the spicy Lebanese lamb sausage. These are offered alongside tasty Middle Eastern dips and a large selection of soft drinks. What’s more, the prices are shockingly cheap. For the self-catering among you, the raw meat is also great value.
When the weather’s good, you can sit outside and watch locals and students going about their Withington business, or take a short walk to the nearby Old Moat Park for a truly local picnic.
