It was during my first month living in Manchester when an old friend, keen to show me the city sights, took me to the Shudehill car park. When she explained where we were going my expectations weren’t overly high but, being a bewildered fresher, I agreed, even if a little reluctant. Little did I know, this guided tour would kindle an odd obsession with car-park viewing spots for many years to come.
The panoramic 360-degree view of the city helped me get my bearings in a city that I was only just getting to know. Ever since then, I’ve (over?) enthusiastically taken any guest who agrees up to the 8th floor of this multi-story car park above the Shudehill bus station. The view is of the city and beyond, with hills visible in all directions, and it never fails to disappoint. The lift is located inside the bus station building. Take it to the top floor and enjoy.
