Take a walk round Manchester city centre and it would appear that tea is becoming the new drink of choice. Accompany this with a slice of cake and you have a plethora of places to choose from. Only one place delivers this in the heart of the Manchester ‘gay village’. The Richmond Tea Rooms can be found on Richmond Street, just behind Canal Street. You can no longer access the cafe via The Eagle on Bloom Street.
Take a trip inside the Richmond Tea Room and you are transported to a magical Alice in Wonderland World. The tea room is fabulously decorated with a small conservatory in one corner and a grand tent like structure against one wall.
The options for cakes are plentiful and all look delicious. I opted for the Victoria Sponge, which you may think was a bit boring, but wait until you see it. Two separate layers of cream and jam and a portion size which could feed two! Washed down with a delicious pot of Camomile, Vanilla and Honey tea.
The menu also offers sandwiches and light bites. Opt for the Alices Rarebit, you won’t be unhappy with this choice. This is also a good option for breakfast, with their Eggs Benedict being a good choice. Their Facebook page always has details of the daily specials.
If you can book ahead at weekends.
