We made plans to meet friends at the Whitworth (an art museum) when they got changed the night before to what my friend called an “amazing bike place”. I didn’t even confer with Rueben before agreeing.
We arrived at Longford park and walked over to the Athletic Stadium, I was struck by how big it was. Round the track circling cheerfully were adults and children, on nearly any kind of bike you can imagine, tandems, hand powered ones, and even a penny farthing.
During the school year they work with disabled children and several of the bikes are adapted to differently abled bodies, which is fun to try but my arms got very tired. I saw one woman travelling the track with her baby in a pram in the wheelchair platform.
I didn’t even see the kids once we arrived, they were all off like a shot, everyone cycling in circles with big smiles on their faces.
