Finding a decent place to eat in and around Canal Street is very tricky. Whilst you will find a number of fast food places and a couple of bars serving mediocre bar food, a decent meal in the ‘gay village’ is a rare thing. For those looking to eat a good meal in the village, then Velvet has to be your destination. The Velvet ‘complex’ offers a bar, a hotel and a restaurant all next door to each other.
To access the restaurant climb down the stairs underneath the bar, walk over the fish tank which is located in the final step and you will find a decent sized restaurant which has an ever changing art collection on display.
Food on offer at Velvet is decently priced and the portion sizes are very good. I have never had a bad meal here, and would recommend the Crab Linguini is delicious. This is a great place to eat either as a couple or with a group of friends.
