The Northern Quarter is without a doubt the hipster centre of Manchester. Vintage clothes’ shops, gin bars and pubs selling craft ale line the streets as far as the eye can see, with another popping up on a weekly basis. A new bar here isn’t exactly a rare occurrence.
Texture, however, has a different selling point. It claims to be Manchester’s first multimedia bar. Not quite sure what this meant, I decided to go and check it out. I was greeted with a DJ/VJ (video jockey) playing minimal house music perfectly in sync with ever-changing, mesmerising patterns projected onto an exposed brick wall.
This is where Texture comes into its own. With a high tech projection system situated above the bar, it hosts weekly audio-visual events with music of various genres from funk and soul to hip-hop.
With an illuminated bar serving toffee vodka shots to a clientèle fresh out of art school, Texture is definitely worth a visit.
