The greasy spoon is described by some as Britain’s finest culinary invention, and I’d be inclined to agree. These cafes, providing cheap sustenance for those in need, have become local institutions wherever they are. After all, everyone needs an English breakfast sometimes.
The coffee house café is a perfect example of such an institution. This local cafe provides Withington with fry ups, a valiant job to say the least. This is a no-frills place. Don’t expect organic or vegan produce, but rather a great value traditional breakfast. I’d recommend the veggie breakfast or the hay stack (a classic fry up all served in a bread roll); there is no better hangover cure than one of these washed down with a tea.
There are tables outside, so when the sun’s shining you can eat while overlooking the day to day going ons of Withington. And its almost a certainty you’ll get talking to one of the friendly regulars.
