I’m sure you have seen tons of food stands with the word torta with bright, colorful letters written on them. Well, if you haven’t eaten there, a torta is bolillo – the Mexican roll – with just anything inside. Since we love eating a lot, most tortas have a massive amount of meat and cheese.
I personally prefer smaller and lighter food, which is why tortas from La Texcocana are the ones that I like the most. Small, tasty sandwiches is what you will find in this tiny location. The cod torta is probably the most popular one, but my personal favorites are the avocado or fresh cheese tortas. If spiciness is not a problem, make sure they add some chipotle on it or, even better, ask the cooks to give you chiles – even just writing about this is making my mouth water… – At the end, if you are pleased with the food and service, don’t forget to leave some coins as a tip on top of the counter.
In one word, La Texcocana – probably the oldest tortería of the area – is a must when it comes to tortas.
