Milan doesn’t have many bike lanes, lots of cobble-stone streets and crazy drivers but it is the perfect size of a city to discover by bike. A bike provides me with just the kind of freedom I love – no need of parking spots and I can happily ignore one-way street signs and most red lights.
Although my bike almost never lets me down, it also needs attention once in a while. As I love to fix things myself, I am obviously able to fix my bike on my own or at least, almost on my own. Ciclofficina is the kind of place that allows me to do exactly that.
Located about 30 minutes biking from Porta Genova along the Naviglio Grande, in an old house, a few bike “freaks” have opened a place for people to fix their bikes. You can find all the tools you need here and the place is stuffed with millions of second-hand parts and even new ones. It’s a “do-it-yourself” approach but you can always ask one of the guys running the place for help.
With a €10 membership fee per year (I advise you leave an extra contribution for the parts you take and ask for the price of the new ones), you can come here any day between 10:00 – 18:00.
Tip – you don’t have a bike yet? You can come and take one of the old ones that people have left at the place; fix it yourself at Ciclofficina and go!
