Mon Amour Les Chaussures – Italian made style

When I’m looking for some shoes which are a little different and I want to pay a good price for good quality, Mon Amour Les Chaussures is a shop for me. I don’t know if the reason why I like this place is because I’m Australian and they like to model themselves after London fashion, [...]

Ristorante Rugantino – Take in the views

This restaurant is nestled in a nice little corner of the beautiful area of Piazza di San Lorenzo and “Le Colonne” – The Columns (Roman of course).
After a nice stroll around the area, or maybe after a drink in one of the many bars in the area, you may feel like sitting down and enjoying [...]

Piccola Ischia – A piece of sun from the south

I tried this pizzeria based on a recommendation and I wasn’t mislead. This pizza is good!
One of my favourite starters is the Montanara (little mini fried pizzas, with tomato and Parmesan cheese on top) and instantly fell in love! Delicious! Such a small thing with so much flavour. In fact, the range of starters are [...]

Turnè Bar – Relaxed and good value

Turnè Bar is definitely one of my favourite bars in town. It was created by two young guys and they had an instant success.
The atmosphere is very warm and cosy, the music is diverse and not too loud for good conversation and the service is always good. It’s the kind of place where you can [...]

Hop Birreria – Fancy a beer? Hop in to hop!

Hop is fantastic place for a cold beer and a relaxed atmosphere even on a cool winter’s night. What makes it even better is that the beer is Italian and locally made.
In particular, you can find beer from the local brewery – Lambrate. They do a nice salad or sandwich should you feel a little hungry but this [...]

K2 – Good old fashioned Tuscan food

This is one of the few places where you can still have the feeling of a real Italian “trattoria” as the town was full of 20 years ago. Now the majority of them have become fake places with unbelievable prices and “K2″ resists as one of the few “old schools” testimonials.
K2 is a Tuscan restaurant [...]

Seven – Fancy a steak? Some good wine?

Saturday nights are good for sitting down with friends over a good glass of wine (or 2 or 3!) and when I feel like a change from Italian cuisine I find “Seven” is a nice alternative. The steak is good, and a friend took the chicken and couscous as pictured and was also happy.
The wine [...]

Osteria dell’Oca Giuliva – Cosy Atmosphere

If you find yourself around the Porta Romana area this is a good honest restaurant to try. I would recommend it as a place to take a small group of friends.
They do some good in-house pasta and the pizza isn’t too bad I’ve heard. Last time I had the pappardelle with trevisano and speck and [...]

Coccio Birreria – Cosy beer cafe

This is a favourite place for a beer, particularly during the colder months as it’s a particularly cosy place. In the summer it’s absolutely packed, so less cosy, but still good for beer. They serve a good Italian brewed favourite Menebrea (www.birramenabrea.com) and the Prague favourite from Staropramen (http://www.staropramen.com/english/index.html).
Books on the shelves, electic chairs and [...]

Damatrà – Good, hearty food to warm your belly!

“Damatrà” or Milanese dialect for “look at me” (because I’m speaking to you), is a cosy and welcoming trattoria (family restaurant). Prints and paintings cover the walls and warm wooden furniture make you feel nice and comfortable. Recently they have been putting little lights on the ceiling so it’s like your under the stars. Tacky?! [...]
