Pizza is a typical Italian food, but more precisely it’s a Naples specialty. As you can see from the big blue flag in the back, the guys at La Piccola Ischia are from Naples. They serve not just a real Naples pizza, but also an amazingly savory one, where both the mixture, the dough and the toppings can satisfy almost everyone’s imagination. And Piccola has more than 40 default pizzas you can customize as you wish. Moreover the place’s name refers to an amazing island quite close to Naples, if you ever have the chance to drop by Ischia, you’ll see what I mean.

Last time I had a fried pizza (my favorite kind of pizza, if you’ve never tried it please do so once, it is not cooked in the oven, but it is fried, just stunning) with little sausages, mozzarella and tomato sauce and I still lick my lips whenever I think about it too much.

The ambiance is completely informal and sparkling and I think it is exactly how any Italian “Pizzeria” should be. Finally they have 4 venues in Milan so check on their website which is the closest one!

Like at many of the best pizzerias all over the world, there is no menu at Spontini, just a pizza Margherita. The only choice is the size of the slice and the beverages. The pizza here is a bit different from the classic pizzas, in fact this one is thicker, so thick that one or two slices could be counted as a full meal. Don’t be disappointed for the lack of choice, this pizza, considered to be one of the best in town, is literaly a triumph of taste.

Spontini is an institution in Milan, which has been around since 1953 and it still keeps the same ingredients and recipe. There are four Spontini in Milan: Papiniano, Marghera, Cenisio, Buenos Aires. The name Spontini comes from the first of the 4 sites where Spontini opened: At Corso Buenos Aires, where it crossed the Via Gaspare Spontini.

Only for lunch they prepare the Lasagna, the typical dish from Emilia-Romagna. It is very good as well, but personally I consider the pizza the real strong point of this place!

If you want to try “the not so usual Pizza” this is the place for you.

Italians (like most people in the world) love Pizza. Most pizzerias in Milan offer more or less the same variety of Pizza, namely: very soft with a high border.

Ciripizza makes a completely different pizza: starting from the dough which is very thin (I think they do not use yeast) and of course very fresh ingredients.

The result is a crispy, light and delicious pizza. I love the one made with whole wheat flour (farina inegrale) and my favorite topping is cherry tomatoes, rucola (rocket salad) and Parmesan cheese.

My suggestion is to ask for spicy olive oil (olio piccante) to add evenly on top of your pizza, at the table.

Another interesting aspect is the menu which has pictures of all pizzas represented in the restaurant.

Apart from pizza on the menu you’ll find appetizers (bruschetta, salami, ham and fresh mozzarella) and something quite unusual for a pizzeria: roasted chicken. I don’t eat meat so I’ve never tried it but it is very popular on the tables so I suppose it must be very good.

Regarding the drinks you will find not only draft beer (Italian Nastro Azzurro) but also wines and different international beer bottles.

If you’re going to have a pizza in Italy, of course, you should really try one in Naples, but regardless, it’s still important to know where to find a good one, anywhere you go! This place I fully recommend. The pizza is great! Full stop! That’s all you need to know!

Sibilla is located in the heart of the Brera area, just off the city centre. It’s a tiny, busy and very basic place with big wooden tables sometimes shared with other guests. Apart from the pizzas (yes, I repeat, they are so lovely and I would recommend the calzone or the pizza diavola, spicy salame and tabasco…mmmm), try the tagliata or any of the other non pizza dishes. Everything is very fresh and the quality is really good. They often have some great house desserts if you still have room!

They don’t accept reservations, so during the weekend you may have to wait a while. You also generally share a table, especially if there is only two of you. Customers tend to be on the younger side as they don’t mind waiting a bit for something really tasty!

For a pizza, the price is a bit pricey a basic pizza costs 7.50 euro…but did I mention that they are very good?!

A perfect place to start off the night and then stroll through the beautiful Brera area or stop at one of the bars open till 02:00.

Rosso Pomodoro is a chain made in Campania, surely the best region for eating pizza in Italy, since it was here – in Naples to be precise – that the pizza was invented, in honor of the queen Margherita.

The pizza napoletana is round with high boarders (crispy outside and soft inside) and a flat and soft inside. The traditional recipe is with tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil and olive oil, nothing else. Since it is so simple, it is easy to understand whether the cook is good and the ingredients are fresh and healthy. In conclusion, the rule is: if the pizza margherita is good, than you can be sure of the quality of the restaurant.

Rosso Pomodoro has got an excellent margherita (here it is called San Marzano) which is extremely cheap: only 6 Euros, a bargain in Milan. However the menu lists a lot of appetizers, first dishes and cakes that are quite inviting, but will end up making your bill much more expensive without adding quality to it.

Since the pizza napoletana requires a long rising and a very quick cooking, waiting time after ordering is really short.
