Let’s get off the beaten track and blend in like a young professional. 5333 Casgrain used to be my office building. It has this old warehouse-loft touch and has a complex labyrinth of corridors where you can easily get lost. It’s located in the Mile-End neighbourhood and the 5333 building, as well as the surrounding buildings, is home to start-ups, cafés, lunch bars, and several agencies. Some open doors allow you to discover a whole new world every single time. I like to get lost in these buildings, because you never know what you will find or whom you might bump into. Sometimes there’s a casting going on, and in that case you should simply follow the signs and give it a try.
You should definitely walk into these buildings during office hours, so you get a feel of Montreal’s creative mind. It could not be easier: the elevators are located in the main entrance. If you don’t feel at ease sniffing around here, you should still take the elevator to the 10th or 11th floor to take in the view. You will be overlooking the neighbourhood, the Mount Royal, and downtown on the far left (south). This could be a great end to a discovery walk because it’s easy to recognize landmarks. And if you’re lucky, you might even find an open door to the roof!
