The question on many Montrealers’ minds as the weekend arrives is where to brunch? A modern Greek restaurant in Old Montreal has started serving brunch and we are all the better for it.
Located on McGill Street just a few blocks away from the pier, classy Ikanos provides a Greek-inspired menu that relies on fresh seasonal products. They promote tapas-style dining where everyone shares the food allowing you to taste various dishes. Last time I went, we mixed the sweet with the salty by ordering the spiced French toast with Greek yoghurt, fruit, candied almonds and walnuts and the omelette with leeks, mozzarella di Buffala, grilled maitake mushrooms and parmesan cheese. It was like nothing I had ever tried before and absolutely delicious.
Their menu options are all appealing, making it hard to pick just one dish. They have mini semolina pancakes with ricotta, honey and pistachios known as Baghir, as well as frittata with grilled zucchini, feta, mint with and grilled green onion salad with herbs, arugula and cucumbers. It’s a brunch delight.
They also have an outside seating area in the summer to fully enjoy the nice weather as you sip your mimosa. The location is perfect for an after brunch Sunday stroll along the waterfront to watch the boats and partake in the buzz of Old Port activities. It’s a win-win spot!
