This is definitely THE place to try Portuguese chicken in Montreal. I have tried several spots of this kind, but La Poule Mouille seduced me the most. The service is quick and efficient. It is also cheap and you get a huge portion. I had the poutine with Portuguese chicken and chorizo, and also tried their chicken with fries. Both were finger-licking good!
The place itself looks more like a snack bar than a restaurant, but because of the partly wooden interior, you still feel at ease. The kitchen dominates the place and gives you a view on all the food preparations. The chef was a happy Portuguese who was more than proud to make me taste his famous chicken.
They also have a pastry and dessert counter next to the cashier. I haven’t tried these yet, but they sure look very tempting. Finally, you can eat in or take your order to go. With spring approaching, consider the option of having a picnic in Lafontaine Park right down the street.
