This is probably the place in Montreal I have visited the most times since I re-moved here, thanks to another traveler friend that introduced me to it. The first encounters with the location and the people running it will only happen at night, thanks to the jet-lag you will carry for a few days coming from Europe. But since I got acquainted with the local time I have been able to visit this address by daytime as well. It’s a different atmosphere and I haven’t decided which one I prefer yet.
So what is it you may ask? It used to be only one space for a few years and then it did double its surface. One side is a restaurant called Ludger with a lovely terrace in the summer and a colourful painted outdoor wall. The other side is bar à vin Magdalena. Both are connected by a small open door but both have their own entrance on the street. The design inside is very monochromatic, simple and sophisticated, I love it.
Strategically located between my subway station and my address, I often stop with pleasure for a drink, some delicious gnocchi or just to say hello – almost at home! When the restaurant is closing, the bar is taking the relay – cocktail or bar à vin: you have the choice. At least once a week on Wednesday there is a live jazz session (check their program) and there is always good music.
