Orange Rouge – The new Chinatown

The Montreal Chinatown is tiny but holds a few gems. It’s a scene that doesn’t change much but there is now a new addition that’s got heads turning and followers coming again. Orange Rouge has a few kinks to work out, like any new place, but is definitely worth the detour.

What makes it special is the fact that the owners had to battle hard to get a spot on that strip; the Chinese community is not fond of western establishments (or non-Asian owners) in their town. But Orange Rouge offers a good blend; Korean, Japanese and Chinese dishes with a twist. Chef Minh Phat has been on deck since 2014 and gets a lot of attention with his inventive approach, having mastered his techniques with previous high profile kitchens such as “Le Club chasse et pêche” and “Le Filet”. From the ramen soup to the roasted duck, their Asian fusion menu is simple and attractive.

The atmosphere is nice and the decor subtle and fresh. If you are in that area and want to go on a neo-bistrot-Asian adventure, this is the place!
