I became aware of San Gennaro after a friend told me I had an espresso waiting for me there. When walking in, I saw my name on a pink piece of paper pinned to the board. Part of the concept of San Gennaro is that you can purchase a coffee for a friend or a stranger ahead of time, which is called Caffè Sospeso.
Apart from this fabulous community aspect of sharing a cup of coffee, San Gennaro specializes in prêt-à-manger. They offer a vast menu of homemade Italian delicacies. From sweet to salty, everything made there is tasty and affordable. They also have gelato and freshly pressed juices. One Saturday morning I had their breakfast pizza, which had eggs, prosciutto, tomatoes and parmesan. I also tried their eggplant stuffed with pasta.
It is mostly busy during the rush hour of the morning and of lunchtime. I like going around 15:00 when it is more quiet and I can work on my computer. They have a nice window front where you can sit and enjoy the outside view.
