Soccer / Football fans and architecture lovers alike will really appreciate a visit to the home of Munich’s most beloved sports teams – FC Bayern München and TSV 1860 München.
If you aren’t visiting during the season, or if you’re unable to attend a game, there are other ways to experience the stadium, including tours behind the scenes. Just check out these infographics!
While visiting the arena you’ll learn interesting facts, such as: the arena is usually sold out for crowds of over 69,000+ people, it contains several jail cells for the unruly hooligans, and the exterior is a sophisticated arrangement of air filled pockets that change color according to which team is playing – it also happens to be the largest textile membrane in the world. During the tour you also get a chance to check out the players locker rooms and walk the pitch yourself.
The variety of tours is very accommodating, ranging from an Arena Tour, VIP Tour, Kids Tour, and Disabled Tour, all of which last a minimum of 75 minutes. English tours are daily at 13:00.
No reservations are required, although there may be a wait time. Also check the event calendar as tours do not run on match-days, during events, or with less than 11 people.
To get there: Take the U6 subway towards Garching – Forschungszentrum and get off at the Fröttmaning stop, then follow the signs to for Markenwelt on the 3rd level.
