Arts ‘n’ Boards – Surfer’s paradise

Thanks to the Eisbach-Wave Munich has been a “surfer’s paradise without sea” for around 40 years. Two years ago it finally got the surf bar (and restaurant) it deserves: Arts ‘n’ Boards.

The owner Uli Richter is one of Germany’s surf pioneers and the founder of Europe’s first surf school in Southern France. Besides being a passionate surfer he is also an art lover. In the basement there is a room for exhibitions from his gallery Richter & Masset, mainly Pop Surrealism and Urban Art (see some examples here).

A lot of pieces also made it upstairs into the big restaurant area. There they share the walls with pictures of surfers, vintage skiing posters and old surfboards from Hawaii, Southern France and California. This mixture of art and boards gives the place its name and its unique atmosphere.

I especially like to come here for a (late) breakfast, but you can visit during every time of the day. Besides breakfast, which is served from 10:00 – 16:00, there are tapas (17:00 – 19:00), daily changing lunch and dinner – one seafood, one meat and one veggie option – and a bar with a nice selection of beer, wine, long drinks and cocktails.

No better way to start a Saturday than to lounge on their comfy couches and enjoy their croissants, breads and art. And you don’t even have to go surfing afterwards.

But you could.
