Only after writing my first articles for Spotted by Locals, did I realise how many of my favourite restaurants in Munich are Italian. Bella Italia am Stachus is one of them. Be aware though, it’s not the only restaurant called Bella Italia in Munich.
The name is simple, and the food is simple: No shenanigans, just authentic Italian food. Pizza, pasta and desserts: everything is very tasty. The portions are big and the prices small. Especially for a restaurant in the city centre. Its proximity to the shopping streets, cinemas and historical part of town combined with the low prices and the good quality makes it very popular with shoppers, tourists, and everyone else. It’s almost always full and especially in the evening you might have to wait a little bit for a table. I never mind waiting though: You get a free prosecco and can take in the atmosphere, watching very busy and very Italian waiters scurry around you with good looking and even better smelling dishes in their hands. Once your table is ready and you order your food, it arrives really fast, making the waiting time actually shorter than in most restaurants.
Bella Italia with its 70s style is very cosy, chandeliers hang from the ceiling and there are walls with big holes in them between every second row of tables, which give you a nice feeling of privacy even though the place is packed with people.
A good and low-priced alternative for pizza and pasta.
