I’m not really a car person, but I do like BMW. Maybe it’s local patriotism. Or maybe it’s because they are indeed the coolest car brand in the world.
Take their headquarter near Olympiapark for example. It’s in the shape of a four-cylinder engine and definitely worth seeing. Right across the street is the BMW Welt. Since 2007 this great piece of futuristic architecture serves to present the current and vintage cars and motorcycles of the BMW Group, as well as a distribution centre and event location.
Whenever friends visit me in Munich I take them to Olympiapark. There are the Olympic stadiums (great architecture), the Olympic tower (great view) and the Olympic lake (great lake). But where everyone has the most fun is in BMW Welt, sitting in BMWs and MINIs, sometimes getting to watch motorcycles racing up and down the stairs or recently a presentation of the new BMW i3 electric car.
After a long walk through Olympiapark the café in the BMW Welt is also a great place to relax and recharge.
Entrance to the BMW Welt is free, and if you don’t get enough of BMW there, you can also visit the nearby BMW Museum, which displays the history (and future) of BMW’s technical development.
