Do you love reading while traveling but you’ve just finished reading the book you’ve got with you? Before you start looking for bookshops in the area, check Munich’s first open (and absolutely free) bookcase!
Organized and managed by a club of people who live in the area, the first and only (at least for now) bookcase is in front of the Nordbad. This is a bookcase that is open and accessible 24 hours a day to everyone. Everyone can get, borrow, return or donate a book – even though, there is no limitation: you are free to take a book but not obliged to leave one. If you love the book that you just borrowed then feel free to keep it. On the other hand, if you just finished reading an amazing book that you would like to share with the world, then you are welcome to leave it on a bookshelf and make someone else happy. And all this for free!
For me, it is like a treasure hunt: every time I discover something new. There are books from every category – novels, specialised books, language or history books, older or this year’s publications, books in different languages; there is literally everything. My favourite discovery remains a textbook from 1922 about the principles, philosophy and asanas of Hatha yoga – simply precious!
