If I have to pick one favorite place in Munich, this has to be Königsplatz. Here is where I think that you definitely have to go if you want to experience the real Munich.
The square is built in Neo-Classicism style in the 19th century and was part of the boulevard “Brienerstraße”, designed by Karl von Fischer, who worked for Prince Ludwig of Bavaria.
Königsplatz is modelled closely to the Acropolis in Athens and really transmits a majestic feeling. Of course you can visit the Glyptothek and the City Collection of Antiques, but what you really have to do is come here on a warm sunny day, grab a beer from one of the shops close to the technical university and sit either on the stairs of either one of these great buildings.
Here is where local students like to hang out and relax. On a warm day, you can meet new people until late in the night. Of course, Königsplatz is very well lit and extremely beautiful, especially after dark. In summer it is advisable to go early to catch up the sun, as the buildings are high and the sun disappears around 17:00 – 18:00.
