What the hell is ‘Boazn’? Here is a short definition that in my opinion describes it well: a room with a long counter, one window, a run-down toilet, a bar lady called Gertrud and three suspicious guys on barstools concentrating on their beer.
And ‘Gruam’ is the Bavarian word for pit: did you ever have that dream where you fall into a pit? You never know what’s to be expected inside and how long it takes to get out. And that’s exactly what this is. You come in and find the way out a few hours later. And then you wake up and realize, that was not a dream.
A ‘Boazn’ called ‘Gruam’ sounds like an explosive combination. In former times it was. A spot for truckers, prostitutes and other suspicious life forms.
Today only some rumours exist, for example that the owner always had his baseball bat ready in case of trouble. There is always a kind of atmosphere reminding you of the illegal past of this building, located directly under the tracks.
It’s dark inside, it’s small, the flash light blinds you, it’s dirty – not in a hygienic way -, the jukebox utters Guns N Roses’ ‘Welcome to the jungle’ in a tinny way, it’s great. A spot with an irresistible gravitation.
My conclusion: Get your own bavarian un- or forgettable “Boazn”-experience!
