I have to admit that I am not a big fan of country music and that I have got to know Clint Eastwood rather as director of “Million Dollar Baby” and “Gran Torino” and not as cowboy in spaghetti films. It is thanks to a friend that I discovered Oklahoma country bar – Munich’s only country bar!
Don’t be surprised, many Bavarians (especially, belonging to older generations – but not only) love country music. There will always be country songs equally represented in all traditional Bavarian celebrations, together with the traditional Bavarian music: even at the famous Oktoberfest!
A country bar in Munich is a unique experience on its own: Bavarian cowboys wearing their cowboy hats and logger shirts proudly, enjoying their Bavarian beer in a bar with flags of the American South, figures of tribal chiefs and Sheriff’s badges, miniatures of old railway trains and the big wooden bar; while others test their abilities in line dancing.
Go there during a live concert of local country groups (check the website for the dates). Except for drinks, you can also enjoy small snacks and pizzas – pretty basic but perfectly fine to accompany your drinks.
The highlight of the bar: the minature train railway that runs over the guests’ heads and is used to transfer beer and refreshments to the singing band!
