Josefina is a cute little café in the Maxvorstadt area where I used to live as a student. Back then a perfect Sunday (or a day with not so great lectures) consisted of breakfast, lunch or coffee and cake at Josefina, some relaxed hours in the nearby Alter Nordfriedhof and one or two beers at Alter Ofen (also check their articles!).
The relaxed and friendly atmosphere at Josefina made me immediately feel at home on my first visit. And the place became even better after they started using (almost) only organic certified products for their meals and cakes.
I still go to Josefina from time to time, even though the way there got a little bit longer. Depending on the time of the day I either have one of their nice breakfasts (don’t miss the very tasty croissants), a lunch from their daily changing menu (12:00 – 14:30, afterwards sandwiches) or one of their house made cakes.
The best companion for breakfast is a freshly squeezed juice made from seasonal fruits and vegetables. For lunch you have a choice between mostly three vegetarian dishes, I almost always go for pasta or risotto and have the house made ‘Josefina Soda’: lemonade with elderberry syrup, fresh mint and lime.
Besides the juices and sodas you find red and white wines, coffee (the barista even has a “coffee diploma”), tea and hot chocolate on the menu, which makes Josefina a great place to visit even without being hungry – on Sundays, and on any other day.
