Fancy a trip to (ice-cream) wonderland? Visit “Der verrückte Eismacher” right behind the uni (LMU).
This ice-maker calls himself crazy for several reasons. Here are some of them: Pancakes, Parmesan, Döner, Spaghetti, bacon and “pregnancy dream” (pickles with Nutella). What sounds like the menu of a very “diversified” restaurant are just some examples of what to expect here. And it doesn’t stop with food: Cuba Libre, Piña Colada, Sangria and champagne with strawberries are on the menu as well. And of course beer: Helles, Weißbier, Radler and during Oktoberfest beer from all six Munich breweries.
The interior is decorated like Alice’s Wonderland and the ice-maker Matthias Münz will greet you in a pink suit and hat and with a grin almost as crazy as his ice-cream.
But he’s not just crazy; he’s also really good (voted Germany’s best ice-cream place)! After university he not only spent a lot of time in wonderland, but also in Italy, learning from the crème-de-la-crème of ice-cream.
So far I’ve enjoyed everything I tried. If you want to stay safe go for one of the comparatively normal types: Toffifee, Triple Chocolate Cake, Oreo, Raffaello, Lindt, roasted almonds…
The menu changes almost daily (check their facebook), but I am sure you’ll find something you’ll love. A visit can even substitute a real Bavarian breakfast. Have a Weißwurst ice-cream with some sweet mustard ice-cream and a Weißbier ice-cream next to it and I guarantee you’ll be as full and happy as if you’d had the real deal.
