Fisch Häusl, Bavarian for “fish house” is a small shop where you can buy fresh fish and sea fruit. It is part of a larger shopping area called “Stemmerhof”, which is like an institution for people living in Sendling when it comes to high-quality food.
Now, Sendling is not the typical place that you would end up in when walking around the city, but it is worth going there if you want to have a good understanding of how the more normal people live in Munich, not only the posh part of the city that resides in the center and in Schwabing.
But let’s go back to Fisch Häusl. I found this place by complete chance when I was visiting a client who’s office is close by. We wanted to go for lunch and I saw the huge sign “Fish Soup”. This is what I had and I must say it was amazing. This is easily the best fish soup I have had in my life. A large portion costs €8.90, but it is worth it.
On Wednesday they also have fish paella, which is also very tasty, at the price of €12 for a large portion. Various kinds of fish from the grill are also served. Enjoy!
