Sometimes I feel the very urgent need to throw all my IKEA crockery away. Sometimes I want to add more pastel colours to my life. Sometimes I have the idea that decorating my meals with rose petals is absolutely essential from now on. That all comes to my mind after visiting the Gartensalon.
Hidden from the lively streets surrounding the university, the Gartensalon is a small café, nestled in the court of the Amalienpassage. Although I can’t remember how I first stumbled upon this place, I’m pretty sure that it must have been a kind of Alice in Wonderland moment. And indeed, once you’ve stepped inside, the crazy tea party can last all day long.
During summertime, the set up terrace reminds you of an enchanted garden where you can drink lemonade between rose bushes. And in winter, things get cozy inside with chains of lights and delicious hot beverages.
The bright colours and the fancy wallpaper make me instantly happy. Chattering vintage dishes, mismatched tea pots and coffee mugs increase my need to go shopping at a flea market this weekend. The lunch here made me forget that there is a canteen at university and the heavenly homemade cakes, scones and tartes leave me wishless at all times.
Find the entrance to this little gem (keep looking for a green chalkboard on Türkenstraße) and mind the fact that it remains closed on Mondays. And say hello, if you meet Alice or me!
