Pepenero – Great Italian food

They must have read my article… I talked about the low prices saying “I can assure you, the food is so good, everywhere else in Munich you’d definitely pay more for it”. It finally happened, the prices increased. The good news is, the quality of the pizza increased as well. Pepenero was closed for a few weeks and reopened with a new style (black instead of green) and a new kitchen. The pizza is thin, crispy and more delicious than ever.

There are 17 options of pizza – from Margherita (€6.95) to Prosciutto di parma e rucola (€10.95) and 30 options of pasta, starting from Spaghetti with butter and parmesan (€5.45) and ending with Spaghetti gamberi (€12.95). In between you’ll find the classics like Spaghetti aglio e olio, Bolognese or all’arrabbiata (all for €7.45), Lasagne (€8.45) or – one of my favourites – Cannelloni with ricotta and spinach (€8.95). You can also go for salad, meat, seafood or dessert.

In addition to the regular dishes on the menus – turn them to get your placemat – you find weekly dishes and drinks on blackboards. They fit the simple decoration – a lot of black, with grey wood panelling and dark brick walls.

It’s a very relaxed and casual atmosphere at Pepenero, and the friendliness of the waitresses adds to it.

Find a place around the far left corner for a little more privacy or sit outside when the weather is right.

(I’ve only been to the one in Schwabing, there are also Pepeneri in Lehel and Glockenbachviertel by now.)
