On the south end of the major city park “Englischer Garten“, there is a spectacular spot for watching wave riders on a small channelized river arm. And due to its park location, this is also an excellent spot to chill & have a relaxed walk in the city park (which is larger than NY’s central park!).
IN WINTER AND SUMMER: For Munich citizens, the Eisbach river wave became a pretty traditional watch spot already. Also there are many tourists on a walk to the art museum “Haus der Kunst” crossing the small river bridge – they stop and get curious:
SURF WATCH: Since 40 years, passionate wave-riders use the small river Isar arm to surf on the probably most famous surf spot in Central Europe. Even Pro’s as Kelly Slater or Jack Johnson already surfed on this constant wave here in Munich. By the way – there has also a movie been made – “Keep Surfing” – dedicated to this surf spot, published in 2009.
You can easily reach this spot in the city center via both Bus 100 and Tram 18 (Stop: Nationalmuseum – Haus der Kunst)
