Munich may indeed be known for its delicious beer and tasty sausages, but rest assured, there are hosts of amazing ethnic food restaurants in this city that will blow your socks off! One of my absolute favorites is “Zum Koreaner” located in Schwabing’s historic Amalienstrasse.
This Korean eatery is also a favorite amongst Munich’s university students, as it is affordable, the portions are generous and they are quick. If you are not sure what to order, the wall next to the cash register has some helpful photos of the restaurant’s specialties. If you are still unsure, try their Bulgogi with kimchi (my all-time favorite), a portion of pork belly or Bibimbap (served hot or cold). As seating tends to be limited (especially during lunch time), don’t be surprised if someone asks to join you at your table – you never know, it could lead to interesting conversation with some university students or professors.
Zum Koreaner has other locations as well – another one in Munich located at Nymphenburgstrasse 132 and in the village of Aindorf, located about an hour south of Munich near Chiemsee.
Although Zum Koreaner is affordable, quality is certainly not compromised – all the meat comes from organic farms located in the Chiemgau, the region around Chiemsee, one of the more gorgeous lakes south of Munich.
After lunch or dinner, walk around this unique corner of Schwabing – this quarter is full of great boutiques, antique shops and small art galleries.

Sorry, but that restaurant is affordable yes, but good? Every dish tastes the same, either too salty or a slight flavour of soja sauce. My experience is really disappointing with that one.
Far better is the small chinese restaurant a few meters further (I think it is called Ni Hao). Try the amazing Jaozis there.
