When the sun shines and the sky is clear, many New York locals head for the nearest rooftop. In Manhattan, there are several obstacles to finding the perfect rooftop – large crowds, expensive drinks and limited menus, to name a few. But in a quaint stretch of waterfront in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, Alma offers skyline views and an incredible menu to match.
Just a quick subway ride from Manhattan, Alma offers all the requisite Mexican dishes: guacamole, queso, tacos, fajitas. But the real draw is the rooftop bar – open all summer and weather-permitting in the winter.
My favorite time to visit is early evening, just as the sun is setting and the skyline starts to light up. Although Alma draws a crowd, I love it because it never feels as claustrophobic as the rooftops across the river in Manhattan, so you can enjoy premium margaritas, pan roasted pork tenderloin (cashew cilantro pesto, grilled asparagus, peach salsa) and the view, without the crowd.
